From the farm to the top of the world: Doering inspires ag leaders to dream big
How can lessons learned growing up on a farm inspire everyone, from rural producers to city dwellers, to innovate, take action, and change the world and their own communities for the better? What can farm life teach us as educators and innovators about ways we can engage with youth today, no matter what their background? With roots firmly planted in the farm fields of southern Minnesota, and several decades traveling the world as an acclaimed international educator and explorer under his belt, Doering offers a unique perspective on the benefits and life lessons of farm life. He was honored to speak recently to a group of over 400 ag leaders from across the Midwest at an ag symposium sponsored by South Central College in Mankato, Minnesota. His talk, “From the Farm to the Top of the World: Growing up on a Farm Prepared for a Lifetime of Exploration” inspired the crowd to dream big and envision new ways to approach the complex, technology-filled world of 21st century farming and life in general. He also shared a new educational initiative he is directing that is launching this year at the University of Minnesota called AgCultures, which will usher in an exciting new direction for ag education.
